Commencing in 2024, EPAA has brought together APAC and global payments service providers and networks and other relevant stakeholders in the payments ecosystem to evaluate the impact of the quantum threat on the existing cryptography and security mechanisms currently adopted by the industry and to support preparedness for the payment service providers and the wider ecosystem. The objective is to maintain the security and trust of payment networks, as well as regulation compliance in the post quantum era.

In 2024, the focus of the working group was on information and education – ensuring that the call to action to the payments industry was initiated. Activities included the launch of the QSC-WG at Money2020 Asia and the creation of:

In 2025, the focus of the working group was to present a series of workshops, followed by a virtual seminar, aimed at establishing practical, business-based protocols for the industry. These workshops were used to inform this whitepaper, due for publication in late September 2025. The workshops were presented in Sydney, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore between June and August 2025, and were then followed by a Virtual Webinar in August 2025.
